Annual Parish Weekend
Each October St. Andrew's hosts a Parish Weekend at Trinity Center. We gather on Friday evening for a late supper (7 pm) and have a short time for music, getting-to-know-one-another, and compline. Then on Saturday morning, the children and youth have special activities while the adults focus on a spiritually uplifting theme. Saturday afternoons are free time and some walk the beaches, have conversation with friends, explore local coastal towns and shops or curl up with a good book. Saturday evening usually finds us gathering for a dance or festive event in the beach house. Sunday morning is relaxed with an outdoor service of Holy Communion at Sanders' Point and a boxed lunch to send us off on the journey home... some take the ferry for a relaxed trip home. All meals and room and board are provided and babysitting is arranged... what could be finer than to be in Carolina...?
Cursillo
Cursillo is a short course in Christian community. The Cursillo Weekend is for adults and lasts from Thursday evening through Sunday and is offered in our diocese twice a year (spring and fall). It is led by lay persons and gives witness to the power of the Holy Spirit to renew and refresh our relationship with Christ. The follow up to Cursillo is that lay persons are encouraged to gather weekly in small groups for prayer and study and reflection on ways in which one might have had "a moment close to Christ." An apt description of the Cursillo Weekend is that it is like a "spiritual Christmas" with gifts to be opened that one did not realize one had!
Happenings
Happening is for teens in high school grades 10-12. The Happening is led by peers and really charges the teenager to consider Gods calling upon their life and actions in faith. This is also offered by the diocese so that youth get to meet others from the larger Church.
New Beginnings New Beginnings is for preteens and those in grades 7-9. New Beginnings is led by peers with adult supervision that brings a first time look into the soul of the human spirit. People who experience New Beginnings are often quick to sign up as "staff" on the future weekends. This, too, is offered by the diocese and brings together youth from the larger Church. [BACK TO TOP]
